2010 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Cabernet Franc - Gold Medal

Sharrott Winery wines continue to impress! We are quite proud to announce that the 2008 Cabernet Franc was awarded a gold medal at the San Francisco Chronicle 2010 Wine Competition. The four-day event, which is AmericaÂ’s largest wine competition, featured 4913 wines representing 1500 wineries, and the 2008 Cabernet Franc placed in the top 15% of all wines judged.

The competition was founded in 1983 as part of a regional citrus fair and has expanded exponentially ever since. Entries are accepted in November annually for January judging. There were 66 Cabernet Francs in this yearÂ’s competition with only two rating in the Double Gold and one Best in Class. The wines ranged from as high as $80 down to $14.99. A public tasting of them all was held on February 20th at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, CA. For more information about the competition, check out www.winejudging.com.

Following the win, winemaker Larry Sharrott was interviewed by Philadelphia Inquirer wine columnist Craig Laban who wrote, in a previous column, about his experience as one of the 60 wine professionals that came together to judge the competition. Both are available on the InquirerÂ’s website.
